The Double-Cross (3)

Following are a few most common Barnum statements:

You have a great need for other people to like and admire you.

You have a tendency to be critical of yourself.

You have a great deal of unused capacity which you have not turned to your advantage.

While you have some personality weaknesses, you are generally able to compensate for them.

Your sexual adjustment has presented problems for you.

Disciplined and self‐controlled outside, you tend to be worrisome and insecure inside.

At times you have serious doubts as to whether you have made the right decision or done the right thing.

You prefer a certain amount of change and variety and become dissatisfied when hemmed in by restrictions and limitations.

You pride yourself as an independent thinker and do not accept others’ statements without satisfactory proof.

You have found it unwise to be too frank in revealing yourself to others.

At times you are extroverted, affable, and sociable, while at other times you are introverted, wary, reserved.

Some of your aspirations tend to be pretty unrealistic.

These statements stated above have a very great impact on minds of laypeople, who do not know that these lines are not customized, personalized but are general vague statements. As one can see that these statements have a gloomy, depressing feel about them, we have prepared our own version of this psychological personality sketch.

These can be considered as a derivative of the original Barnum statements and can be used to amuse people or just to study the how common is the life of people. Following are statements:

o You have a little need for other people to admire you. You believe that you have a great deal of untapped potential. You don’t have much personality weakness, but you are generally able to compensate for it when required. Although, you’re disciplined and controlled on the outside, you tend to be rule‐breaking, frivolous and adventurous when possible. At times you have some doubts as to whether you have made the right decision, but at other times you firmly believe and support the decisions you make. You prefer change and variety in life and become dissatisfied when restricted or bounded by limits. You, my friend, are an independent thinker and accept other’s opinions only with satisfactory proof. You find it unwise to be too frank in revealing your thoughts and emotions. At some times you’re extroverted and sociable while at other times you get introverted and reserved. Also, sometimes some of your aspirations tend to be pretty unrealistic. Overall, you’re a well‐mannered, wise and reasonable human.

o You might have a little need for other people to admire you. You believe that you have a great deal of untapped potential. You don’t have much personality weakness, but you are generally able to compensate for it when required. Disciplined and controlled on the outside, you tend to be rule‐breaking and fun‐loving when possible. Sometimes you tend to get irritated when people around you may underestimate the wise mind behind your pretty face. At times you may have some doubts as to whether you have made the right decision, but at other times you firmly believe and support the decisions you make. You prefer change and variety in life and become dissatisfied when restricted or bounded by limits. You, dear, are an independent thinker and accept other’s opinions only with satisfactory proof. You find it unwise to be too frank in revealing your thoughts and emotions. At some times you’re extroverted and sociable while at other times you get introverted and reserved. Sometimes some of your aspirations tend to be pretty unrealistic. Overall you’re a witty, sensible and responsible human.

The above paragraphs are general statements about people that hold to be true for anyone. These can used to manipulate the minds of people and increase their interests in fake psychic and charlatanic works. This must be prevented from happening.

Hence the next chapter is dedicated to the detection, analysis and control methods of these dark powers. Even so there are numerous ways and psychiatric and psychotherapy that can use these above stated ‘double crossing’ methods of the mind to cure depression and other mental conditions. This will also be discussed in the next chapter.
