Slow-Mo
A lot of people reviewed my last post as, "Boy! That escalated too quickly!". So I sat down in despair. Thinking. How do I fix this? What have I skipped? What is missing?
And then, I heard a voice whispering in my ears... "Shut up and calm down you egotastically mean psychopathic brat!".
I saw left, I saw right (not up, because I know angels don't exist and, spiders don't speak English), then I looked for my extremely genius girlfriend (who, I later realized, doesn't exist) and it was then that I agnized that its my super intelligent mind speaking to me. Who else could it be? The most intelligent mind in the room. Well... you know what... Never mind.
So, the important thing we learn here is that when you don't go pro, you go slow. Before doing anything that requires brainpower, we need to calm our minds, in order to arrange our thoughts in a clean, systematic manner.
This, I think, is what we skipped. Before going to a war, you must prepare for it first. Keeping this in mind, I think we should start learning about the seeds even before studying the roots. So, today we'll discuss how to calm our minds, which , I believe was ignored earlier (My bad), and should be learnt before learning anything that requires brainpower.
Do you know how fast we think? A recent study at MIT revealed that if given the context our brain needs just 0.013 seconds to find it among many other flashing images. Very fast. Just think how amazing it would be if our brain can process all data at such a speed. We could be the Flash of brains.
Well, I do not believe that it is possible for conscious thoughts to get processed at that rate but what we can do is practice to make most of our thinking subconscious. And for that, we need a calm mind.
Have you ever stopped suddenly, somewhere, walking on the street, or in the back seat of your Rover, and have ever given thought, that why do leaves just fall, and why does that feather fly, why don't all the seas go dry... Sorry, the poet part just comes and goes sometimes.
But really, have you ever thought about this? Why does that feather fall upwards, defying all gravity? Or how do the shades of sky change in the evening? How does such a big tree come from a small seed? How does your wrist watch work? Or how does your brain work?!
Neither have I. You don't need to go philosophical or even spiritual to calm your mind. You just need to be interested.
I know a lot of people who know a lot of things about a lot of things like there's one who knows everything about cars, and there's one who knows everything about mobile phones, another one knows the names of captains of all the cricket teams, and there's another who has memorized the names of all railway stations in two of the lines of Mumbai Suburban Railways. But Alas! None of them, including me, can remember the syllabus for our semesters.
So that proves, that all we need to do is get interested.
But is it possible to get interested in everything we do? Unfortunately, No. But it, indeed, is possible to get get less bored.
Before learning to calm your mind I think that you'll be interested in knowing what are its benefits. After reading this post you'll be able (Or at least I hope so) to focus and concentrate better, get more attentiveness and start learning new things easily. But on the other hand you may get calmer than usual, improve your grades, you may become a bit popular and your friends may get jealous. But I can't help it. Every good drug comes with a side effect.
So let's get started...
All of the above mentioned techniques require a good amount imagination. And that, comes only though practice. I have tried each one of them and have been successful in improving myself. I hope this to be beneficial for you too.
If you know other techniques of soothing your mind share in the comments section below, and I might share them, with credits;).

But on the other hand you may get calmer than usual, improve your grades, you may become a bit popular and your friends may get jealous. But I can't help it. Every good drug comes with a side effect.
So let's get started...
- Stop Thinking: Well it actually is impossible for our brain to stop thinking. It never can. Think of everything you do as programs written in your hard-drive. You can run any program whenever you wish to. But, you have to agree that processes like beating of the heart, respiration, digestion are all preprogrammed. Even though you stop your programs, the in-built features will only stop if the device is malfunctioning and I'm sure you don't want your device, er... sorry brain, to malfunction. So when one says stop thinking it means stop thinking about processes that aren't the priority at the given instant.
- Color it: Have you ever wondered if emotions would change the colour of your skin, which emotion would be which colour? I perceive the calm state as light pink or light blue. Close your eyes. Imagine yourself sitting in white clothes, in a white room. Sit in whichever position you feel the most comfortable. Then breath. Slowly. At the most comfortable pace. Then imagine with every breath, you're inhaling the soothing light blue/pink breeze coming in through that window. With each breath you're filling your body with that calming air. Do this till you feel that the air is filled up till your head. After this, open your eyes slowly, and you may be able to feel more calm and stress-free.
- Let it go: A lot of people see danger as Red and sad or bad as Black. Whenever you get angry or feel frustrated, just imagine that your lungs are full of red hot air. With every breath you're exhaling this air and inhaling the cool air from the environment. Similarly, when you feel sad, just imagine cold black air leaving thought your nose and every time you breathe in you're getting warmer and cheerful.
- Take the stairs: Close your eyes, imagine that you're standing on top of a staircase which leads to paradise. With every step you get near that paradise, near that soothing sensation. Slowly, come down, and take a stroll in your land of dreams, and then get back to where you came from, and slowly open your eyes. This technique will be further discussed under the self hypnosis section with many such techniques.
- Find fun: What is the most weird thing you've ever seen? Why do you remember it? Because it's weird. And weird is fun;). Relate boring things to things you find fun and interesting. Make puns and jokes, and you'll find that what once was a headache, is now a fun game.
All of the above mentioned techniques require a good amount imagination. And that, comes only though practice. I have tried each one of them and have been successful in improving myself. I hope this to be beneficial for you too.
