As there are criminals so are laws and law abiding people. The group of people that makes you follow the laws by hook or by crook is called Police. Now as there are so many law breakers roaming around one needs some sort of police protection to protect not just their material property but also their intellectual property which is far more valuable than any other form of properties (only people who have some intellectual material in their cranium will understand this).
As discussed under the last topic there are a lot of ways to cheat and manipulate your mind so are ways to secure and calm it. We will see these in this chapter.
One of the ways to protect your mind is to learn new methods of deception and try to find where these methods are being applied in the real world. Few of these methods were discussed in the last chapter. This method is effective considering the anti‐placebo effect.
Placebo effect: The psychological phenomenon in which the recipient perceives an improvement in condition due to personal expectations, rather than the treatment itself. Research about the effect is ongoing.
These are important methodological tools in medical research. The anti‐placebo effect works in a manner that the subject is already informed about the effect hence the perception of improvement or illusion or delusion is automatically eliminated. For example: now that you have read the ‘false expectation’ method of cheating your mind and how it affects your mind you will act accordingly and not fall for the trap when you see that fairness cream commercial the next time. Constantly learning not only makes you more aware and wise but also increases your immunity against deceptionists, delusionists and con artists which is very important in today’s world. The main effect in action is the anti‐placebo effect that is; the more you study about different deception methods, the more methods you neutralize. Thus making you an ‘Anti‐Con Superhero’.
Another method that works against deception is questioning. The more you question, the more you annoy the opposite party and the more you annoy the opposite party, the more are the chances that you can save yourself from those conning authorities. Con artists usually avoid annoying people, as time invested in them does not give any extra returns.
The ultimate thing is to stay calm and be always aware of our surroundings as deception is always following us anywhere and everywhere. Finally on an end note we would like to give a small trick to calm your mind. It is one of the self hypnosis methods. This one is called the ‘staircase’ method and is the most popular method amongst all other methods to calm one’s mind. It is as follows:
Sit in a room with the least noise in a comfortable position. Slowly close your eyes. Now imagine that you are standing in front of a door, a wooden door with a metal knob. Now as you open the door you enter a room, where you can hear no noise and everything is serene and calm. Just in front of you are stairs having wooden railings. As you walk down the staircase, with each step passing you feel a weight being lifted from your shoulders. Getting weightless with each step. Now as you breathe in and breathe out clean, cold air, you feel very quiet and calm. At the bottom is the most silent and calm place on earth, where you can sit and rest for any amount of time without any stress or tension. You can return to this restless and noisy world by just climbing up the steps and coming out of that door.
Finally we can conclude from this report that the mind is an open fortress having infinite information, which can be infiltrated by anyone at any point of time. Our job is a policing guard force that can protect this fortress and the data inside.
