The Subconscious- A Glimpse
Consciousness is defined as ‘the state of being aware of and responsive to
one’s surrounding’. In simple words it is the ‘Beware!!’ sign board of our
minds that stand before our eyes 24X7 invisible to us and to everyone. But if
it is indeed invisible, how do we see it?
The answer lies in our mind itself. The involuntary precautions and
astonishing reflexes are all the work of a secret hero. Underneath the layers
of critical-thought functions of the conscious mind lies a powerful awareness
called the ‘subconscious mind’.
The difference between the Conscious and Subconscious minds is very
simple. The subconscious takes in data from the conscious and suggests it
how to act in a specific situation. In a fine example, when we see a
photograph, it is our consciousness that sees the image, but it is the sub
consciousness that understands what it is and what it means.
The subconscious is considered a large memory-bank with apparently
infinite storage with almost infinite efficiency. It is often said that our
conscious memory can only retain 62% of all that we see, but little we know
that the subconscious memory saves 100% of all that data which can be
revoked at any times through meditation and other methods including
hypnosis. Although, it has been argued many times that the subconscious
does not exist, in reality, many have proved it’s existence in the most
spectacular manners.
Even though it is our minds that we seek to reach, people have remarkably
managed to discriminate in the paths to reach there. Broadly classified,
spirituality, science and the study of psychology are the three ways to
contact the superiority inside us.
The Spiritual Approach is the most common approach to reach and control
your subconscious. One of the ways is leading an idealistic life as prescribed
by one’s religion. Another way is to travel around the globe to find different faiths and different approaches to life. One other way is to meditate and train
to reach the inner depths of your mind. Irrespective of your aim, the spiritual
approach helps to reach the mind to find the true meaning and purpose of
life rather than ways to control it.
The Scientific Approach is more celebrated than the actual achievements it has in its pockets. This includes dissection of brains, subjecting the gray matter to stress and sometimes electricity, for neuron excitation. This rather cruel approach uses medical science and raw biological methods to literally uncover the brain and find what’s inside. However, this approach focuses on how our brains actually work more than how to maneuver it better.
This one is the real deal; The Psychological Approach. Psychology is the study of the human mind, neither by cutting it open nor by following orders of a cult blindly but, by observing, taking data and noting behavioral patterns. This way does not individualize and customize the method to reach the ultimate rather it generalizes the way of thinking of people and tries to find a path different from what has already been taken by carefully analyzing them and synthesizing a new and better way to go ahead. It sounds like a mixture of above two approaches it is a rather exclusive one because it neither follows a blind path nor require hard facts. It is ideal for people who want to uncover the true potential of their brain power which is actually our primary objective.
Given how important the subconscious is, it might be a surprise that it is
very easy to manipulate it. From educational to commercial to political
fields everything has turned into a market. And the sellers are not ready to
spare any means to promote their product as the best in market. A warrior loses battles when he goes to war believing he is invincible. We are the
warriors and every faction out there wants us to believe that we’re
invincible. A quick example: Don’t think about a pink elephant. You
pictured a pink elephant to not think about. It is this easy to influence and
manipulate human minds.
It will be but natural for one to ask why put so much effort? It is really not
worth your time if you want to ask such questions in a world that has read
Sherlock Holmes and Hercule von Poirot let alone Patrick Jane, L Lawliet
and Light Yagami. This is one of the miracles of the subconscious that lead
to such hilarious imagination power. The subconscious is nothing but a tool
in the process of making a certain piece of job into a habit, be it imagination,
mathematical calculations, meditative martial arts, solving a cube or
something as simple as playing rock, paper, scissors (P.S. There even exists
a World RPS Competition).
One might also say that fictional examples must not be treated as real
entities when discussing those virtues mentioned above, but it really is a
shame in this 21st world for people who don’t know legends like Derren
Brown, Colin Cloud, Neil Strauss, Corinda, Steven Frayne, and Joe Novaro.
Just a search of their names on the internet will inform you of their presence let alone their achievements.
Even with all the above knowledge it still is very difficult to protect
ourselves from thieves not only physically but also mentally. Criminals
worldwide are turning from bullets to billets. There is a huge surge in the
number of cyber criminals and con-men around the globe ready to attack on our pockets. Unlike computers our minds don’t have anti-viruses and cyber security thus it is our duty to prepare ourselves for the worst. This is only
possible through thorough study of the working of the subconscious and
practicing what we learn.
